Blowing away the Cobwebs

Just a four or five block walk from our apartment building is a tiny little lake front beach. 12th Street Beach is tucked away behind the Adler Planetarium and is the perfect place to go on an afternoon walk. Especially when the wind is blowing. Then, it’s just you and the seagulls, appreciating the view from the beach. You can sit and look back toward the Chicago skyline, or face out across the apparently endless Lake.
In the middle of winter it has beautiful natural ice sculptures hanging from the exposed trees. At the height of the summer season, it is a perfect spot for grilling out and watching the waves hit the beach, until it gets too cold, or the flies start to bite, whichever comes first.
On a windy day like today, it is just the place for clearing away a case of the Thursday afternoon blues. For finding beach treasures that you just wouldn’t expect to find in the middle of a busy city. For remembering how lucky we are to be living here.
I love Chicago.
